Blackjack: Why Four Variants Do Not Share One Rulebook

The search term blackjack suggests a single game, but live tables run on four quite different rulebooks, and the cause is that Evolution builds several variants of one game. A rule that is true at one table, such as a missing card value, is false at the next. This page lists the four variants and one fact for each so the rulebook is clear before the first hand.
Blackjack: 4 Variants and What Sets Each Apart
Why this happens. Variants exist to offer different pace, seat counts and side bets. As Evolution’s site describes them, the differences are structural, not cosmetic.
| Variant | Seats | Defining rule |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | seven, plus Bet Behind | the regular live table |
| Infinite | unlimited | Six Card Charlie, four side bets |
| Power | unlimited | 8 decks, 9s and 10s removed |
| Lightning | scalable | 2x to 25x multiplier on a winning score |
What fixes it. Read the first column when you pick a table. Names such as Infinite, Power and Lightning tell you which row applies.
Power Blackjack: The 9s and 10s Are Missing
Why this happens. Power Blackjack is part of the Infinite range, and its 8 decks lose every 9 and 10 though the picture cards remain. That removes 64 cards from the shoe. Doubling goes further here: the first two cards of any hand, even one made by a split, may be doubled, tripled or quadrupled.
- Optional side bets: Hot 3 and 21+3, with Any Pair and Bust It alongside.
- There is no Six Card Charlie rule.
- The initial decision is not available on Power Blackjack.
What fixes it. Do not carry basic-strategy habits from a standard table into Power. With a different shoe, the usual charts do not apply, so use the table’s own rules panel.
Which Variant Fits Which Habit
Why this happens. The four variants suit different play styles, and picking by name alone leads to a mismatch. The table lines up the main difference with the habit it fits.
| If you want | Variant to look for |
|---|---|
| The regular pace with Bet Behind | Standard seven-seat |
| An open seat at any time | Infinite |
| A changed shoe and extra doubling | Power |
| A multiplier at an added cost | Lightning |
What fixes it. Choose by the first column, then confirm the rules in the panel. A habit built on one variant’s rules should be rebuilt, not carried over, when you change tables.
Lightning Blackjack Costs More Than Its Stake
Why this happens. In every Lightning game you pay a Lightning fee on each initial bet. What it buys is a 2x to 25x multiplier on any score that wins. The fee is charged whether or not you win, which raises the true cost of a hand.
What fixes it. Compare the fee with the multiplier range before you sit down, then decide whether the feature is worth it for your budget. The VVJL live tab showed a Blackjack filter and an Oceania VIP Blackjack tile, and their variant was not opened. Browse the remaining games on the live casino hub; the sibling Lightning table is in the live roulette guide, and the Evolution Gaming guide names the studio. How to Get Started
-
Name the variant first
Read the table name for Infinite, Power, Lightning or a plain seven-seat table. The name signals the rules.
-
Check the shoe and the side bets
Power Blackjack deals from 8 decks that have no 9s or 10s. Power and Infinite share their side bets: 21+3 and Any Pair, plus Hot 3 and Bust It.
-
Look for the fee
Lightning tables add their fee to each initial bet, which makes a hand cost more than the chips you stake.
